Tacachale Center of Excellence

The Tacachale Center of Excellence is a 520-bed institution serving persons with mental retardation and associated developmental disabilities. There are over 2,000 persons with similar problems living in our surrounding area and over 30,000 throughout the state of Florida. To prepare health care providers for caring for such persons in the community, Tacachale and the University of Florida collaborate to sponsor training experiences Tacachale Resident Receiving Medical Careat the Center for family medicine residents, pharmacology clerks and interns, physical and occupational therapy students and interns, and pediatric dental residents. Dr. Kellett leads this health care organization with approximately 120 professional staff providing a full range of services within the setting of a residential institution that employs approximately 1,400 persons. In addition to his leadership role, Dr. Kellett has primary clinical responsibility for over 50 inpatients. He continues to conduct several specialized seizure clinics every week and coordinates the management of approximately 200 seizure patients. He directs 10 subspecialty clinics that are conducted regularly on site, he rounds on patients admitted to Shands at UF, and serves as liaison to the family medicine in-patient service there. In the past two years he has cared for 18 patients with refractory seizures who have received Vagal Nerve Stimulator implants. (more about Tacachale)
