The primary mission of the Department of Community Health and
Family Medicine in the University of Florida College of Medicine is to
develop an outstanding academic environment for education, research, and
clinical practice in family medicine. Essential components of this mission are to:
-
educate medical students in family medicine,
-
train family medicine residents,
-
foster research and discovery in primary care,
-
deliver quality clinical services to all segments of the
community, and
-
provide continuing education to the community of family physicians .
The Department integrates teaching in humanistic medicine, medical
ethics, behavioral medicine, and rural and community health into both
undergraduate and graduate curricula. The Department has model
family care sites in
several communities, providing training in urban and rural medicine and
health care for under served areas in the State. These teaching and clinical
activities are augmented by a variety of research projects that explore and
contribute to the scientific knowledge base in family and community medicine, rural
health, primary care, behavioral medicine, and the medical humanities.
We would also like to extend an invitation
to visit with our chairman,
R. Whit Curry, Jr., M.D.
