Siegfried O.F. Schmidt, M.D., Ph.D.Siegfried O.F. Schmidt, M.D., Ph.D. is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine at the University of Florida, and the Medical Director of Family Medicine at Hampton Oaks and Family Medicine at Fanning Springs. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Aachen in Aachen, Germany and his Medical Degree and Ph.D. from the University of Cologne in Cologne, Germany. Dr. Schmidt is a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and has received numerous honors including induction into The Best Doctors in America: Southeast Region. Dr. Schmidt has most recently been selected as one of "America's Top Family Doctors" by the Consumers' Research Council of America and published in the "Guide to America's Top Family Doctors" 2002-2003 Edition. Dr. Schmidt is a member of the Speakers Bureau for Janssen Pharmaceutica, Pharmacia, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical, Inc., Purdue Pharma L.P., and Glaxo Wellcome. He is a reviewer, editor, consultant, and member of the contributing medical staff for Home Study Education (HSE) of Miami, Florida, and a member of the Continued Medical Education Committee for Home Study Education. Dr. Schmidt has authored multiple books, instructional videos, one book chapter, and three journal articles, including one peer-reviewed article for The Annals of Pharmacotherapy. He has participated in numerous grants and has delivered over seventy national, regional, and statewide presentations. Dr. Schmidt's medical interests include chronic health conditions, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, coronary artery disease, thyroid problems and osteoporosis, women's health including menopause, men's health including sexual dysfunction, chronic pain conditions, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome, migraine/headache disorders, chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome, preventative medicine, occupational medicine, alternative medicine, hematuria, hematology, clinical quality care, medical ethics, medical-legal issues, and malpractice prevention.
