Dr.
Kosch is Professor, Department of Community Health and Family Medicine
and Director of the Department's Behavioral Medicine Program. S. Graham
Kosch received her B.A with Great Distinction and Honors in Psychology
from San Jose State University, San Jose, California. She completed one
year of graduate training in the Clinical Psychology Program at San Jose
State University and then completed her training in Florida. She
received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Florida
and completed an internship in both Clinical Psychology and Counseling
Psychology at the University of Florida. She holds a Diplomate from the
American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in Family Psychology
and a Diplomate in Marital and Sex Therapy from the American Board of
Family Psychology. Dr. Kosch has been involved in family medicine
education since 1979 and has been an active participant in the academic
organization of Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, serving on its
Task Force on the Family in Family Medicine for over a decade in several
key roles. Her research and scholarly interests center around five major
areas: (1) the interface of lifestyle variables and disease; (2) the
interrelationship of psychosocial variables and physical health (3) the
education of physicians in core competencies, including professionalism,
communication skills with patients and families, working in a health
system, medical decision-making, and developing self-reflective practice
styles; (4) psychotherapy processes, including a focus on individual
psychotherapy, co-therapy, and couples counseling, and (5) family
therapy issues, such as addressing the needs of children in divorcing
families, and families with physical or sexual abuse.
