Dr.
R. Whit Curry, Jr., M.D. is a Professor and
the Chairman of the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine
at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He received his
Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida in 1967 and his
medical degree from Duke University Medical School in 1971. He completed
his training in Internal Medicine at Stanford University Medical Center,
and became Board Certified in Internal Medicine in1974. After spending
two years in rural North Carolina as a National Health Service Corps
physician he did a Fellowship in Family Medicine at the University of
Florida and became Board Certified in Family Medicine in 1979. Dr. Curry
has been a faculty member with the Department of Community Health and
Family Medicine since 1977 and was appointed as Chairman in 1992.
Dr. Curry has won several teaching awards as Teacher of the Year, has
been listed in The Best Doctors in America since 1995, and
received certificates of recognition from the American Academy of Family
Physicians Foundation and the Florida Medical Association. Dr. Curry has
been a consultant for the Education Council for the National Diabetes
Education Initiative and is currently a National Advisory Board member
of the EthicAd Council. He is the medical health advisor for Health
in a Heartbeat, a nationally syndicated radio broadcast;
Editor-in-Chief of Patient Care Journal; a reviewer for
Journal of the American Board of Family Practice and Family
Practice Recertification; a member of the editorial boards for the
Journal of Family Practice and Tobacco, Alcohol and Other
Drugs; and medical editor for various articles and newsletters. Dr.
Curry is the Medical Director at Shands at AGH for
Florida: A Healthy State, A Florida
First Health Care Initiative. He is a Fellow of the American College of
Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, Society for
Teachers of Family Medicine, the Teachers of Preventive Medicine, and
the Alachua County Medical Association. Dr. Curry has given numerous
presentations and workshops on various topics on the national, state,
and local level. He has over thirty articles published in refereed
journals, in addition to two books, numerous book chapters, monographs,
and a variety of miscellaneous publications. His medical interests
include cardiology and diabetes, general medicine, health maintenance
and preventive services.
